After years of lethargy, “Personalized Diet Plans” are beginning to pick up serious consumer interest and enthusiasm.

Impact on diet industry

23andMe is partnering with an AI weight-loss coaching service called Lark to provide personalized health recommendations. Lark already has wellness and diabetes-prevention programs separate from 23andMe, but will now allow 23andMe customers to integrate weight-related genetic information into personalized diet, exercise and sleep advice.

Personal data hoarders like the Apple Watch are in prime position to provide customized reporting and health planning that goes far beyond normal plans based on flaw-prone self reporting. 

Speaking of the Apple Watch’s capabilities, is Fitbit even staying in the game at this point?

Traditional diet firms like Weight Watchers and Nutrisystem could find themselves behind the curve if they don’t move quickly to engage with this trend.  Consumers simply aren’t settling for one-size-fits-all nutrition and exercise planning anymore.
